Giving Gown Foundation Urges Local High-School Teens to Register for Prom Dress Giveaway

Young Girls live out a Disney Dream experience on Boutique Day

Giving Gown Foundation urges local high-school teens to register for Prom Dress Giveaway

The scene could be the basis of an upcoming Disney movie sans the animated bluebirds, but having the same steadfast attention and care to all that enter the Giving Gown doors. Teen girls, who have pre-registered for the event, will be able to waltz into the well-designed “boutique” to choose their Prom dress and all the trimmings, and yes…along with their very own Fairy Godmother, from among the 8,000 dresses available making it possible for them to attend Prom in style – all free of charge.

The vision of the Giving Gown Foundation, which was founded in 2007, began as an outreach to just under 100 girls has now grown to an annual four day event to approximately 1,400. To date, thousands of high school students in the Houston and surrounding area have benefited from the organization.

“Although we love dresses at Giving Gown, we love these girls more,” Cassie Miller, the President of The Giving Gown Foundation said. “The heart of this organization is about so much more than a dress. At the core of Giving Gown is a group of women who believe every teenage girl deserves to feel loved and celebrated just for being who she is—no strings attached. We realize that different life experiences often make it difficult for a family to afford the extras. Giving Gown is here to help so that every young woman may have the opportunity to realize such an overwhelmingly positive experience that builds confidence and self-esteem.”

On Boutique Day, each young lady, the Princess, is paired with a fairy godmother. The Princess is then whisked away to choose a gown, shoes and jewelry for her special day. Giving Gown even has seamstresses on hand to help with alterations providing that extra stitch to make her gown fit just right. Giving Gown also provides a lovely lunch for the Princesses and guests in their Boutique Day Café. The most important aspect of the event is the Empowerment Workshop where girls learn about real beauty.

“These precious girls come for a dress but leave with so much more,” Miller said. “We believe in empowering girls, one dress at a time. Everyone leaves ‘lifted’ and not just the young women who leave having found the perfect dress, but also the volunteers, seamstresses and anyone involved with the Giving Gown Boutique day. The experience is life-changing.”
